OCIA – Becoming Catholic

Curious about the Catholic faith? We’re here to walk with you.
The Order of Christian Initiation of Adults (OCIA) is a welcoming process for adults who are thinking about becoming Catholic—or just want to learn more. Whether you’ve never been baptized, were baptized in another Christian tradition, or are a baptized Catholic who hasn’t received First Communion or Confirmation, OCIA is for you.

This is a journey of faith—personal, flexible, and taken at your own pace, with guidance and support along the way.

Who is OCIA for?

  • Adults who are not baptized and want to explore becoming Catholic

  • Those baptized in another Christian faith who are interested in joining the Catholic Church

  • Catholics who were baptized but never received First Communion or Confirmation

  • Anyone who just wants to learn more about Catholicism without pressure or commitment

What to Expect

You’ll meet with kind, caring people who are here to walk with you and answer your questions—no matter how big or small. There’s no test, no timeline, and no need to have everything figured out. Just come as you are.

Here’s what the journey looks like:

  1. Getting Started (Inquiry)
This is the first step—just exploring. We’ll meet with you one-on-one to get to know you, hear your story, and see how we can help. You can ask anything, and there’s no pressure to commit.

  2. Learning and Growing (Formation)
If you decide to keep going, you’ll join others who are on the same path. You’ll learn about the Catholic faith—who Jesus is, how we pray, what we believe, and how we live it out in daily life. We’ll also spend time reflecting, praying, and building community.

  3. Preparing for the Sacraments (Lent)
As Easter gets closer, you’ll prepare to receive the Sacraments (like Baptism, Communion, and Confirmation) if that’s where your journey is leading. This is a prayerful and meaningful time of getting your heart ready.

  4. Celebrating New Life (Easter Vigil)
The high point of the journey! At the beautiful Easter Vigil Mass, those ready to enter the Church are welcomed with open arms through the Sacraments.

You’re Not Alone

OCIA is led by a team of people from the parish who care deeply about helping others find their place in the Church. You’ll have support from:

  • Parish staff and clergy

  • Friendly catechists (teachers of the faith)

  • Sponsors and mentors who walk alongside you

When and Where?

OCIA meets regularly throughout the year, and you can start early fall each year. We work with your schedule and where you’re at in your faith. It all begins with a simple conversation.
